A masterplan to significantly enhance foreshore amenity around the Dampier Palms and Hampton Oval precinct has been endorsed by Council.
The masterplan represents the second stage of works identified under the Dampier Townsite and Foreshore Enhancement Plan which was adopted in 2015.
Improvements include providing better pedestrian and vehicular access, creating additional activity nodes for water and land based activities, establishing formalised parking areas and integrating existing foreshore assets such as the playing field, movie screen and palms.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the works were part of a suite improvements to the Dampier foreshore that would cement it as a destination of choice for locals and tourists alike.
“The Dampier foreshore is extremely popular with the community and the City has been working hard to improve infrastructure to enhance the experience for residents and visitors while protecting the coastline for future generations,” Cr Long said.
“Following on from significant enhancements delivered around Shark Cage beach, Council has endorsed a masterplan which will considerably improve amenity and infrastructure around the Palms and Hampton Oval precinct which will undoubtedly cement Dampier as one of the premier foreshore destinations of the region.”
Council will now progress with detailed design, further community consultation and documentation of the proposed $11.7 million redevelopment plan.
“Having consulted with the community to develop a concept plan for this redevelopment, the City will continue to seek community input throughout detailed design, particularly around proposed activity areas.”
“We envisage the implementation will be delivered through a stage approach once detailed design is complete, however the decision to proceed to construction will ultimately rely on Council’s ability to secure funding for implementation.”
