A copper mine 30km south of Karratha will commence production next week following the announcement of a supply deal between Artemis Resources and Blackrock Metals.
Under the agreement 50,000 tonnes of copper oxides will be trucked from the Artemis Resources owned Whundo Mine to Blackrock Metal’s Whim Creek operations for processing.
It is the second major development in the City of Karratha for Artemis Resources with the company also expecting to commence gold production from its Nickol River project in April.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long welcomed the developments and said it was a positive sign for the region that new projects were getting off the ground.
“Artemis is a relatively new player in our region however is fast growing and has significant potential with gold, nickel, cobolt and copper finds close to Karratha,” Cr Long said.
“Moving into production on two separate projects is a major step forward for the company and another positive sign for the region following the recent announcement for the construction of the Balla Balla project.”
“It is fantastic to see these new projects getting off the ground and particularly promising given the significant opportunities for local contractors.”
