A drop off lane, additional short term parking and rejuvenated forecourt at the Karratha Airport will soon become a reality with upgrade works to the front of terminal expected to kick off next month.
BGC Contracting has been appointed to undertake the $3.3 million project which also includes a rejuvenated terminal forecourt with shading, seating and landscaped areas.
Up to 15 local contractors and services providers will be engaged throughout the project.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the upgrades would provide an enhanced overall experience for airport users by simplifying access and increasing parking capacity.
“We know the community has really missed having a drop off lane for passengers since it had to be closed due to a change in airport regulations,” Cr Long said.
“The City has been working through how to provide for this in the new car park design and we are thrilled that a ‘kiss and ride’ lane has been incorporated into the final car park and rejuvenated terminal forecourt design.”
It is anticipated the project will commence in April and be completed by September 2017.
Changes to the parking and terminal access will be communicated throughout the project to minimize disruption or delays.
