Tenders have been called for the construction of a major new Community Hub in Wickham as well as a water playground that will be located at the Wickham Pool.
The call for qualified builders marks a major milestone in the long-awaited hub project, which will bring a new library, early learning centre, multi-purpose community rooms and a youth space together in a striking contemporary building.
The Hub will be similar to the well-loved Dampier Community Hub project which was opened in mid-2016.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said he was pleased to see the project going out to tender following a thorough community consultation process to determine the scope of the facility.
“This project has been under discussion in the Wickham community for many years and I am proud that we have finally settled on a fantastic design which will modernize the facilities available in the town,” Cr Long said.
“We are currently seeking funding from the Federal Government and Royalties for Regions for the project and already have a commitment from Rio Tinto to support its construction,” he said.
“The Dampier Community Hub has had a transformational impact on that community and I’m looking forward to this project doing the same in Wickham,” he said.
The Wickham Community Hub is co-located with Wickham Recreation Precinct. The splash pad will form part of the existing Wickham Pool at the Wickham Recreation Precinct.
Tenders are open for the construction of the Wickham Community Hub Project while Council seeks State and Federal Government funding. Tenders for the splash pad are also open now.
