Junior sports expo back ahead of winter season

Young residents will be able to try their hand at a wide range of sporting codes available in the City of Karratha next month ahead of the winter sports season.

The FutureClubs Junior Community Sports Expo will offer youth aged 6 to 15 years an opportunity to experience a number of different sports through drills and games delivered by local club representatives.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the expo was a fantastic part of the FutureClubs club development program, encouraging participation in sport throughout the next generation.

“These junior sports expos are excellent ways for parents to give their children a taste of the codes and clubs on offer in the City, all at the same time and in the one space,” Cr Long said.

“We are lucky enough to have an ever increasing number of dedicated coaches and players working hard to build their code or club in the city and they will be out in full force across the two expo locations to inspire the next active generation of our community,” he said.

“Our FutureClubs program is focused on developing sports clubs in our community and this is just one of the many events and workshops held throughout the year that strengthen our sporting codes and associations.”

The Futureclubs Junior Community Sports Expo will be held in Karratha on Friday 17 March, 3.30pm to 7.30pm on the Karratha Leisureplex oval and in Wickham on Saturday 18 March, 8am to 11.30am at Wickham Oval.

Sports codes on offer vary at each location but both venues will include hockey, rugby and AFL options.

The Futureclubs Junior Community Sports Expo is supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation, Lotterywest, City of Karratha and Rio Tinto.
