Kerbside recycling will be added to household waste collection services across the City of Karratha in the new year.
The new dual-service approach will be delivered by City of Karratha contractor, Cleanaway.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said Council had investigated a number of delivery options in order to provide the best possible waste collection service to residents.
“In July, Council ran a competitive tender process to see whether alternative service delivery models could achieve a higher level of service at a reduced cost. It was found that an external provider could not only deliver current services but include recycling as well for a total cost that is less than our present delivery expenditure,” Cr Long said.
“We know the implementation of a kerbside recycling service has been a top priority for our residents with feedback throughout our Community Survey and Facebook page indicating the need for its provision,” he said.
“Being able to provide residents with this new service at no added cost to ratepayers is an excellent result for both the community and for Council.”
Recycling bins will be provided to each household for the fortnightly recycling collection service with more detail on scheduling to be released in coming months.
