New scheme funds business development

Over $60,000 in grant funding has been awarded to the Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry to deliver a series of projects aimed at enhancing local businesses.

Successful events including the Business Excellence Awards, and Business Boot Camp as well as the Small Business Breakfast Briefings, which are run in partnership with the City of Karratha will receive funding.

A Lead and Adapt Workshop as well as a careers fair have also received Council support and will assist local businesses to thrive in the changing economic conditions.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the grant program would help to provide informative programs and events for local businesses to stay connected, grow and prosper.

“Our small business community continues to grow through the hard work of our local business people. Council recognises the benefits of support programs for businesses and that is why we have established this grant program,” Cr Long said.

“Council has selected a number of proposed programs that we think will provide the greatest assistance to local businesses and we still have funds left over to allocate to other worthy proposals,” he said.

“Officers will follow up with the unsuccessful applicants to help develop their proposals to provide even more options for business owners looking to learn and develop their skills.”

Over $35,000 in potential funding is still available for allocation from the Business Development Support Grant Program.

Interested applicants can contact the City on 9186 8555 to discuss their ideas and progress an applications for the remaining funding.
