RV friendly badge a step closer

Self-drive tourists will find Karratha an even better destination as the City progresses towards achieving RV friendly status.

A project by Discovery Parks to create a low cost RV friendly site will be supported by Council to help achieve the Caravan and Motorhome Club of Australia designation.

The City will put up to $25,000 towards a dividing fence at the Balmoral Caravan Park to create the RV Friendly facility and will establish signage to direct tourists to the site.

City of Karratha Deputy Mayor John Lally said Council was supportive of private businesses that were working to expand the tourism industry.

“We have been working on building our tourism industry for quite some time now, and it’s great to see so many companies like Discovery Parks putting forward proposals to grow the industry,” Cr Lally said.

“There is already a strong self-drive tourism market in Karratha, and having the RV friendly designation will provide great promotion for us among this market segment,” he said.

“More self-drive tourists potentially staying longer will mean more money spent at our local businesses like cafes, mechanics and shops which is great for our local economy.”

Discover Parks will create the low cost RV area on their Balmoral Park site while the City of Karratha will progress towards the CMCA RV friendly status.
