A public process will be held to brainstorm potential names for the Karratha Arts and Community Precinct.
The Precinct, which is due to commence construction later this year, will be given a place based name that reflects the City, rather than a descriptive functional name.
Community associations from all five towns will also have the opportunity to provide their input in the facility name.
City of Karratha Deputy Mayor John Lally said it was important that the community led the process to name what would become a key gathering place.
“This will be another transformational piece of infrastructure that will take pride of place at the entrance to our City Centre,” Cr Lally said.
“We want to give it a name that evokes the wonderful sense of place that we have created over the past few years on Sharpe Avenue and that will be complete with this wonderful entrance statement,” he said.
“The theatre, cinema, outdoor amphitheatre and state of the art library that will be housed in the facility will make it a bustling centre of activity for the community and we want a name that will be instantly recognisable and befitting of a facility that will be much loved.”
Final details of how community members can have their say are currently being determined with the process to be publicised on the City of Karratha Facebook and website as well as through local media.
