Tourism boosted through grants

The first three recipients of the City of Karratha’s new Tourism Business Grant Scheme will receive funds to assist with the promotion of their businesses and the region.

Grants are aimed at small businesses in the tourism industry who have market ready products to support specific projects.

Cracker Jack Paddle Sports, The Ranges Karratha, and Whim Creek Hotel will receive amounts between one and five thousand dollars for web and digital promotional projects.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the tourism industry had significant potential and many local entrepreneurs were trying to create or grow tourism product.

“We are committed to supporting the tourism industry in order to diversify our economy and these small grants are a great way of helping give new tourism products a boost,” Cr Long said.

“It’s fantastic to see businesses starting to move into the tourism space and we want to help them as much as we can to be successful in their endeavours,” he said.

“The digital marketing projects that have been proposed by the three successful applicants will all leverage our funding to boost the online presence of these businesses and the City of Karratha.”

The Tourism Business Grant Scheme offers grants of up to $5000 which must be matched by the applicant business, to businesses of less than 20 employees.

As this is the first round of funding disbursed under the scheme, the success of the projects will be reviewed to determine future funding rounds.
