Annual grant allocations announced

A total of $213,000 has been allocated to local community and sporting organisations across the City of Karratha through Council’s Annual Community Grants Scheme.

Councillors approved 14 applications for non-statutory donations at Monday night’s Council Meeting with funds to be awarded in the 2016/17 financial year.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said community and sporting groups were vital to the growth and livability of the City of Karratha and the Annual Community Grants Scheme was a reflection of Council commitment to developing this area.

“We recognise the important role community and sporting groups play in the continued growth of our community and our Annual Community Grants Scheme provide these organisations with an opportunity for further Council support,” Cr Long said.

“Each application received this year was assessed on a number of key criteria by a team of 15 City of Karratha Officers with many submissions demonstrating significant and worthwhile community benefits,” he said.

Successful applicants for the 2016/17 year are Raiders Boxing Club, Roebourne PCYC, Karratha Scouts, St John Wickham/Roebourne, LINK, Port Walcott Surf Life Saving, Karratha BMX, Karratha Family Centre, North Pilbara Football League, Karratha Basketball, Yaandina Family Centre, Karratha Amateur Swim Club, Karratha Storm Junior Rugby, Karratha Community House.

A further six applications were referred to alternative avenues of Council support.
