Tambrey Pavilion breaks ground

Construction of the Tambrey Pavilion is officially underway with sod turned on the site of the new multipurpose sports facility yesterday afternoon.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long was joined by Department of Sport and Recreation Regional Manager Brendan Cullinan and Pilbara Development Commission Director Economic Development Chris Le Serve to mark the start of the projects build phase.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said he was pleased to see construction get underway and was looking forward to seeing the project designs come to fruition.

“Now that construction has begun we can look forward to seeing the Tambrey Pavilion take shape and really come to life over the next few months,” Cr Long said.

“Once complete, this facility will be a real boost for sports clubs and groups based in Tambrey, Nickol and surrounds, providing them with similar amenity to the sports facilities located at the eastern end of Karratha,” he said.

“We anticipate construction of this project to take around seven months with the practical completion of the Tambrey Pavilion set for October this year.”

Department of Sport and Recreation Regional Manager Brendan Cullinan said the commencement of the project will to add to the range of sport and recreation facilities throughout the region.

The Pavilion is one of three projects currently funded with the City of Karratha by the department’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.

“The development of this complex will further provide opportunities for more people to become more active more often and enjoy the benefits of physical activity,” Mr. Cullinan said.

Pilbara Development Commission Director of Economic Development, Land and Infrastructure Chris Le Serve said sport was a key driver of community participation and wellbeing in regional areas.

“Each new and upgraded facility in the region plays an important role adding vibrancy to our communities by increasing the opportunity to participate in sport and community events,” Mr Le Serve said.

Throughout the course of construction a segment of the Tambrey Oval parking area along Tambrey Drive will be inaccessible with the Tambrey Oval bus stop temporarily relocating to in front of the Tambrey Basketball Courts.

The Tambrey Pavilion is supported by the City of Karratha and the State Government of Western Australia through both the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Pilbara Development Commission through the Royalties for Regions program.
