Council seeks public input on sustainability

Expressions of interest are being sought from community members who are interested in joining the City of Karratha’s new Environment and Sustainability Advisory Group.

The group will provide advice and make recommendations to Council on the development and promotion of environmental strategies, sustainability actions and potential community initiatives in the City.

Community representatives with an interest or experience in environmental and sustainability matters are invited to apply to join Councillors on the group.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the natural environment was one of the greatest assets and attractors to the Pilbara Region.

“We all love the outdoor lifestyle here in the City of Karratha so it’s especially important that we are protecting our beaches and foreshores, hills, creeks and other natural areas,” Cr Long said.

“Council wants to engage the community in how we prioritise sustainability and this group is one of the key ways to establish this dialogue,” he said.

“I am looking forward to hearing feedback from our group members on the City’s environmental strategy and their ideas for how we can enhance environmental values in the region.”

Community representatives will be expected to attend a meeting every two months to discuss sustainability issues.

Interested community members can contact City of Karratha Manager Planning, Jerom Hurley at 08 9186 8555 or email Jerom.Hurley@karratha.wa.gov.au.
