City donates to fire appeal

Ten thousand dollars will be donated to the Waroona and Districts bushfire appeal on behalf of residents of the City of Karratha.

Councillors unanimously decided to support the contribution to the fire appeal following the devastating bushfires earlier this month.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said it was important to get behind other regions in their times of need.

“Our community has really gotten behind the bushfire appeal through fundraising and with our local fire brigade sending volunteers down to assist,” Cr Long said.

“Having seen the impact these fires have had on the Waroona communities, our contribution is a small gesture to add to the massive community fundraising efforts to help rebuilding,” he said.

“I’m very proud of the huge fundraising efforts that have taken place in our community for the bushfire appeal. It’s great to know that our residents are so willing to give and I’m pleased that Council is doing its bit also.”
