Refined airport carpark design to go to tender

A call for tenders will be issued in the new year for Karratha Airport Front of Terminal and Controlled Car Park Facility upgrades.

The refined design for the works was approved for progression at the December Council meeting with amendments included to reduce contractor time on site as well as the overall project cost.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the project works would improve the parking and grounds transport facilities at the Karratha Airport as well as create a sense of place when people arrive in the City.

“The front of terminal and car parking upgrade works we are progressing at the Karratha Airport will ensure ease of use including a highly-anticipated drop and go lane, landscaping to create a sense of place as people enter and exit the terminal and an increased number of short term parking bays,” Cr Long said.

“After careful review we have further refined the scope of works that make up the project and the staging that will occur as this takes place. This will ensure minimal disruption to airport operations throughout the works period and bring down the cost of the project overall,” he said.

Tenders for the Karratha Airport Front of Terminal and Controlled Car Park upgrades will be requested in January with a contractor appointed in April. Practical completion of works is expected in November, 2017.
