Karratha Airport scoops prize for terminal redevelopment

Karratha Airport won big at the Australian Airport Association Industry Awards held in Canberra last night, awarded the Innovation and Excellence Award for infrastructure development.

The national accolade was presented to the City of Karratha for the recently completed $35 million Karratha Airport Terminal Redevelopment Project and recognises excellence in the delivery of significant infrastructure projects at an airport.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the redevelopment of the terminal at Karratha Airport was an incredible project that has vastly improved user-experience and national acknowledgment for these works was well deserved.

“Through our extensive terminal redevelopment Karratha Airport now provides exceptional service and amenity to users, the likes of which are often only seen at much larger, metropolitan based airports,” Cr Long said.

“The terminal redevelopment has certainly been one of the most complex projects the City has undertaken and to have been able to continue running a fully operational terminal facility throughout the process is exceptional,” he said.

“Receiving a national award from the Australian Airports Association for our work here is a testament to all those involved with the terminal redevelopment project. We are very proud to accept this award and to be able to provide a world-class regional airport facility to our community.”
