Foreshore lookouts help protect coastal assets

An additional lookout structure and car parking area will be constructed at Maitland Road in Karratha to further enhance pedestrian access and amenity along the coastal dune area.

The second stage of works to be implemented under the Karratha Foreshore Management Plan follows the successful construction of a similar style structure at Searipple Road.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the City had been working closely with the local community to improve amenity and protect the foreshore area.

“We know these areas are popular with the community but they also hold significant environmental and cultural value,” Cr Long said.

“Creating established lookout points, parking areas and pedestrian access will enable people to enjoy the foreshore environment while also protecting it for future generations.”

“The two lookouts will be connected by a natural pathway and feature information signage on local flora and fauna species specific to the area.”

Community planting days to restore the dune areas with native plant species are being held as part of two projects with the first planting day to take place this Saturday 22 October from 7.00am.
