A holistic strategy to manage water resources has been adopted by the City of Karratha.
The Karratha Water Management Strategy deals with all aspects of water management from water usage through to flooding and drainage issues.
The Strategy is in addition to the City’s previously endorsed Water Efficiency Action Plan.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the City faced a number of water issues, which needed to be planned for.
“We need to ensure we have enough water for people to drink and use around home, but we also know that flooding and drainage issues are significant issues around the City,” Cr Long said.
“This plan gives us a strategic framework for how we manage our water resources in the City, which will be used to guide planning policies and decision making,” he said.
“Officers will now work on the priority projects identified in the plan which will build on the excellent flood mapping and drainage work already completed by the City to date.”
