Yoga, meditation, and health and wellbeing seminars are set to bring national and international tourists to the City of Karratha for the latest event funded by Council’s Major Events Sponsorship Scheme.
The Pilbara Health and Wellness Retreat will feature nationally renowned wellness gurus as well as health classes to put the region at the forefront of the health and active tourism trend.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the event would be a diverse new edition to the City’s calendar, in addition to music festivals, arts and cultural events and sporting competitions.
“Events are a big part of our tourism strategy and having a diverse portfolio of exciting activities will help us to grow our reputation as a fantastic destination with something happening all the time,” Cr Long said.
“Health and wellbeing is a fast growing segment of the leisure tourism market and we are pleased that we have entrepreneurial locals who have proposed to develop an event to tap into this market,” he said.
“This is the type of event that will not only bring visitors but has the potential to generate significant coverage in travel and lifestyle publications nationally and internationally.”
The City’s Major Events Sponsorship Scheme has funded a diverse range of events including Gossip Festival, Beats in the Heat, the Sprintcar Stampede, Billfish Shootout and a host of others.
The aim of the scheme is to assist new events with seed funding to help them become established and attract visitors to the region.
