Partnership reaches Pinnacle

The City of Karratha and Rio Tinto’s ground-breaking Community Infrastructure and Services Partnership has won the Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence category of the prestigious Australian Institute of Management WA Business Pinnacle Awards.

The partnership has helped to deliver key community infrastructure, improved service delivery across a range of programs and enhanced community events across all the City of Karratha’s towns.

Now in its fourth year, the partnership has contributed to a diverse range of projects from the Cossack Art Awards to the soon to be opened Dampier Community Hub.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the award was great recognition for an innovative approach to corporate social responsibility that had greatly enhanced the liveability of the city.

“This partnership is built on working together with Rio Tinto to use our respective knowledge and resources to improve facilities and amenity in our towns,” Cr Long said.

“The breadth of projects this partnership covers is extraordinary. We have grassroots programs for retaining doctors in the region, an Indigenous trainee ranger, and graffiti cleaning right through to multi-million dollar infrastructure projects like the Karratha Leisureplex,” he said.

Rio Tinto managing director Pilbara Supply Chain Clayton Walker said the partnership with the City of Karratha focused on making the region a better place to live and work, through a shared vision and commitment to improve town amenities for current and future residents.

“We are proud to support the future growth of the Pilbara, collaborating with the City of Karratha to build on the achievements already made to lay the foundations for strong and vibrant communities for many generations,” Mr Walker said.

The award comes with a $10,000 prize that is donated to charity, with the Royal Flying Doctor Service selected as the recipients.

The Partnership has previously been recognised for innovation and excellence as an Australian Business Awards 100 winner for community contribution and finalist in the Premier’s Awards for Public Sector Excellence.
